Best Copper / DSL Broadband Provider

Flip Broadband is one of the new breed of NZ broadband providers. Flip Broadband say that they do the same thing differently giving you cheap and reliable broadband plans whilst looking to keep the other NZ broadband providers on their toes.

Flip Broadband provide only a few different broadband plans as they like to keep things simple.

Flip Broadband don't yet offer Flip Ultrafast Fibre Broadband but they do have different broadband plans with different data limits and variable speeds. Flip offer all different types of broadband connection, Flip Fast Broadband or Flip Very Fast Broadband - even the broadband plan names are simple at Flip internet.

Flip Broadband also offer two great value adds. You can get FREE NATIONAL CALLING for one hour at a time which then costs 20c p/min after that... or just hang up before the hour is up to avoid paying the per minute charge.  Or you can select FREE 60 CARRY OVER MINUTES.  The carry over minutes don't expire for a whole year and can be used to call 85 destinations including New Zealand mobile phone numbers.

At Broadband Compare we list and compare Flip broadband plans alongside the other broadband providers in New Zealand. Flip Internet provides broadband internet just like the big telcos, except at Flip Internet the big difference is they give it to you with no contracts, carry over data and leading online support.

Flip broadband focus their customer service and broadband support around their online system.  To keep costs low and simple, Flip broadband have invested a lot of time making sure everything is at your fingertips in their online support system. Flip Internet only provide phone support for Technical Issues – 10am to 7pm, every day of the week.

When I joined, Flip were rather good at sorting issues with their network promptly. Their takeover of my line from my previous ISP (Vodafone) was seamless. However, since then, I have had ongoing issues with speed, connectivity, reliability, billing and help of ANY kind from their Desk. We have had Chorus out to check our lines and they found nothing wrong with the phone wiring in our house (at a cost of $250) It took Flip TWO WEEKS of us having a dead landline to organise Chorus to come and check it - and they demanded upfront payment of $250 in case the fault was internal. Issue was in the grey pole by the road, so we were due a refund, that took two weeks, four emails and three phone calls to get. Emails about sluggishness are STILL passed off as being internal - even though Chorus gave it a clean bill of health, the router is new, the splitter is new and a hard-wired one. Router will drop connection every few weeks and then have difficulty reconnecting unless I change to ADSL1. After a couple of weeks, I can put it back on ADSL2 and (most times) get a reconnection, but not always. Router racks up many bad packets. Bad line? Chorus have tested it AGAIN - no issues. Issue must be at their end, but even me telling them what they can do to fix it (as I work with this technology for a living myself), gets a deaf ear until I go through the Page One tactics of their Desk, that never fix the issue. Hopeless. When trying to speak to someone about the competition's deals vs what I pay, I get told to choose one of the other 'deals' they have, which give me less than I have now and at the same price and come with a "don't you dare move or we will charge you" contract for a year. Sod that. My plan has gone up three times since I joined them 3 years ago and I will be going with fibre as soon as it goes past my gate......and with a different ISP. ...read more

Pros:

- Internet works most of the time
- Helpdesk is good unless you need to use it. Therefore I call it the Desk because I get no HELP

Cons:

- Helpdesk filled with people who cannot be bothered reading the previous "fixes" already tried in a fault call
- Plans are not competitive
- You pay more to stay out of a contract
- Speeds drop randomly
- Internet can drop off at any time
- Connection to their network can be problematic at times

My sister tried to close an account with flip, it is proving to be virtually impossible. We moved into a new flat, flip told us their service was available at our new address. After a week of hassle they finally told us that their service is unavailable at our location. My sister tried to cancel the account numerous times, flip still haven't cancelled the account. They continue to charge her for a service they are not providing. I would not recommend opening an account with theses guys unless you want to be stuck with them forever. ...read more

Pros:

Relatively cheap

Cons:

Impossible to cancel the account.

not bad value, but speed drops to veeery slow quite regularly. I'm in Auckland

Pros:

ok value. free national calls

Cons:

I've called Flip several times when speed drops, they do nothing but get me to check connections in my house, reboot router...etc and it doesn't fix anything. Real frustrating when I know nothing is wrong at my end but they won't lift a finger to check their own network. Their support guys are trained well in fobbing the problem back to the customer ...read more

Good steady provider.

Pros:

Good, when dealing with the right staff

Cons:

When I first connected at a dwelling in Gloucester Street Christchurch, the female staff member made things incredibly difficult. She said I had to provide a 'Google Map' location, when the large house I lived in was in the middle of the city, 2 minutes from the former Cathederal Square. She also said I had to provide legal documents from the landlord and a variety of other things that made the task almost impossible. I later contacted a male staff member who sorted things out in an instant and had me connected. ...read more
