Spark Broadband Price Increase - What are my options?

Beat the Spark Broadband Price Increase with Broadband Compare
Wednesday, 10 June 2026

Spark customers are facing their annual price increase, with the telco announcing changes to its broadband pricing effective from 31st July 2026.  The price increases range from $2 to $13, depending on the Spark broadband plan you are on.

We have already been contacted by Spark customers who have started receiving emails that their Spark broadband pland will go up in price from the end of July 2026.  One customer email we saw reported their Essential Fibre Plus plan would increase by $8 per month, $96 extra per year.

How much is the Spark Broadband Price Increase in 2026?

Spark have announced price increases across their fibre and copper plans and the exact price varies depending on the plan you are on.  You'll find details of the exact price increase per month, depending on your plan on the Spark website here.

We have copied the table of the most widely affected plans below.

In 2026 is Spark Broadband the only broadband provider increasing prices?

Not entirely — We have already seen a few providers up their prices. 2degrees raised the monthly cost of their Fibre Starter Back plan by $5/month earlier this month.

We have also seen the Skinny brand, owned fully by Spark announce a price increase as well on it's Fibre plans from July 31st.  Raising the cost of fibre plans by $3 per month, or $36 per year.

Can I cancel if I am in a contract with Spark?

In short. Yes.  You should be able to.  By increasing the price, Spark are changing the terms of your contract.  They state on their website that you can cancel your Spark Broadband plan without any early exit fees if affected by a price increase.  To do this, you'll just need to let them know before 1 September 2026.

Why Are Broadband Prices on the Rise?

Spark attributes the increases to rising operational costs.  To quote their own website, "To help you stay connected wherever life takes you, we're continuing to invest in the network with the widest mobile coverage experience in New Zealand. To maintain this investment, and with rising technology costs - including what we pay to connect to New Zealand's copper and Fibre networks - we’re making some price changes."

As the cost of living continues to bite, fuel prices increasing with the middle East wars and no sign of butter getting cheaper (!!), New Zealand consumers are strongly encouraged to examine their household budgets and look to make savings where they can, if you are on a Spark fibre broadband plan there are a lot of cheaper options available, running on, mostly, the same fibre infrastructure. Compare broadband plans and options across the market to ensure you’re still getting the best value for your needs.

Compare Broadband to Save Money

At Broadband Compare, our mission is to help Kiwis get the best possible deal on their broadband. With rising costs across the telecommunications industry and beyond, it’s more important than ever to take control of your expenses. Our easy-to-use broadband comparison tool helps you assess your current broadband plan and discover whether a better deal is available. Staying informed is more important than ever during a cost-of-living crisis, and taking a few minutes to compare providers could lead to significant savings over the course of a year.

It's also worth checking whether you're on the right fibre speed for your household. New Zealand offers a range of fibre plans designed for different usage needs, and many households are either paying for more speed than they need or missing out on better value options elsewhere.

Ultimately, it's up to consumers to take action. If customers simply accept price increases without exploring alternatives, providers have little incentive to remain competitive. The good news is that switching broadband providers is often quick and straightforward, and by shopping around you can send a clear message that price and value matter. Don't just accept a price rise.  Compare your options and make sure you're getting the broadband plan that's right for you.
